Challenge

Designing Systems for Extreme Marine Conditions

Creating immersive audiovisual (AV) systems for a world-class aquarium required TEECOM to address an unusual combination of environmental stressors. High humidity, salt air corrosion, and the constant presence of water posed risks to electronic and AV components. Additionally, mounting equipment in areas supporting massive loads — including a concrete bowl holding 100,000 pounds of water — required close coordination with the architect and structural engineer to ensure AV components were installed on pre-coordinated structural systems.

Integrating Advanced Audiovisual Technology into Immersive Exhibits

The Ocean Pavilion’s more than 15 exhibits demanded sophisticated audiovisual experiences while creating  seamless visitor flow and durability for daily public interaction. Designing show control, VR experiences, and media distribution networks that interface reliably across each exhibit’s unique form and function required integration planning early in the design process.

Solutions

Selecting Long-Lasting Equipment

To meet these conditions, TEECOM specified corrosion-resistant, high-humidity-rated equipment across all systems. Mounting solutions were engineered to integrate with structural elements safely, even in high-load zones. This approach ensured robust performance despite challenging waterfront exposure and heavy structural demands.

Designing Holistic Audiovisual Systems

TEECOM delivered a unified audiovisual design that included impact assessments, virtual reality systems, show control frameworks, and a resilient network layout. Media storage and distribution were planned to support both real-time and scheduled content across disparate exhibit zones. By aligning AV infrastructure with the Pavilion’s overall exhibit network architecture, the team ensured that high-performance systems worked seamlessly within a flexible and maintainable framework.
