The tech in architecture®

Providing clarity on how emerging technology will impact the built environment, and those who design it.

Research
Research
For many years, we researched and tested emerging products through real-world simulations in our lab. We identified gaps in the marketplace and pioneered new software applications, including Lobby Transit™ and Callback One™.
Research
We began research involving machine learning in 2017. Our intent is understanding how artificial intelligence and deep neural networks can impact the design and documentation process in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry.
Research
Over the course of a two-year study, we tested 35 occupancy measurement technologies, accumulating over 23M data points. Our reported findings provide an in-depth analysis on how occupancy measurement optimizes building spaces when integrated with BMS systems.
Research
Today, we focus on the complexity of modern facilities that require better tools through the software-development ecosystem. We leverage the expressive nature of software code to define a building in its entirety to accelerate and improve the design process.

With the rise in remote and hybrid workplaces, we apply our team’s expertise in software UX to provide UX research for hybrid environments and create inclusive employee experiences.

The evolution of R&D

We started our self-funded R&D department in 2008 to help answer the question that keeps many organizations up at night: where is technology headed? Throughout the years, our focus has cycled back and forth from external-facing efforts that demonstrate the potential of technology in the built environment to internal-facing efforts that accelerate the design process.
